Most common skin irritations and the reasons behind them

Blushing red cheeks that usually occur after a workout  are considered a sign of good health and are considered  beautiful. However, constant redness can be a problem. If you often suffer from redness, dryness and irritation, here are some of the main reasons:

1. Extreme weather conditions

Exposure to extreme weather conditions can irritate the skin. When you are in a hot environment, the skin may become red as the blood vessels dilate in an attempt to cool the body. Therefore, always apply a mineral sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide before sun exposure - they are designed to reflect UV rays and protect the skin. Cold weather causes blood vessels to narrow and thus reduces blood flow to the skin. When blood flow begins to resume, the capillaries dilate and this causes severe redness. At low temperatures it is good to use deeper moisturizing creams, which contain oils and antioxidants and protect the skin.

2. You have sensitive skin

Sensitivity manifests itself in a variety of forms. It usually affects the face or hands and common symptoms include burning, dryness and itching, and the skin may appear red. You will find that you have sensitive skin if you find that your skin easily reddens when you are exposed to prolonged sunlight, strong wind, from certain cosmetic ingredients or even after a few glasses of wine. These agents can weaken or destroy the skin's natural barrier. If you have sensitive skin, you can improve its condition in a number of ways: choose a creamy cleanser, as they dry the skin less than foaming agents. Also, use a sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide every day. Avoid products containing fragrances, colorants, alcohols, retinoids and AHA acids. Try to use natural cosmetics that are free of all harmful ingredients and that will hydrate and soothe your skin.

3. Allergic reactions

Soaps, cosmetics, hair dye, fragrances, jewelry, and even nail polish can cause a reaction that can be seen as red, rash-like pimples. This type of reaction usually develops within minutes to hours after using the product. Redness is the result of increased blood flow as your body produces histamines to fight the allergen. Start with an antihistamine that can relieve any itching, swelling, or redness. Then soothe the skin with a moisturizer containing ceramides. In case you do not know exactly what caused the allergy, take a test to avoid these ingredients in the future. A good option to avoid skin allergies is to use cleaner and more natural products for both hair and face. Carefully review the contents before buying a product and monitor the quality of your cosmetics.

4. Rosacea

Rosacea is an inflammatory condition that causes the skin to turn red. Dermatologists have not yet determined the exact cause, but the process is due to inflammation in the skin and hyperreactivity of the blood vessels of the face. Genetics, factors related to the immune system, sun exposure, stress, alcohol, spicy foods, temperature changes, exercise and ingredients in cosmetics, such as fragrances, are possible causes of rosacea. Rosacea can vary from person to person, but common symptoms include redness, sensitive skin, and acne-like pimples. Not everyone will have each of the characteristics and not everyone who has a certain symptom will suffer equally, so it is important to visit a dermatologist who can diagnose the condition and prescribe individual treatment. Although there is no cure for rosacea, there are products with which you can significantly improve your condition. Be sure to use mineral sunscreen, fragrance-free cosmetics, avoid ingredients such as harsh acids, alcohols and menthol. Limit your intake of spicy foods and alcohol, which also worsen rosacea. If you have very dry skin, you are prone to irritation, so choose the right products. When looking for natural ingredients, the best solution is to choose fragrance-free products. Unscented vegetable oils, such as argan oil, evening primrose oil, sunflower seed oil, are amazing for soothing and revitalizing dry skin. As a bonus, they all also have antioxidant properties, which means that they can protect the skin from the harmful effects of the environment. Also look for  oils such as shea butter, cocoa butter sea kelp and jojoba oil as they provide deep hydration and soften the skin.
